Frank Schermerhorn, Sa bom Nim and Mrs. Schermerhorn Sa bom Nim in concert with their dedicated students ran another smooth invitational regional tournament in Binghamton, New York. This was their 28th Annual Tournament under the Winding River Banner.
The tournament started on time and with the help of many attending Ko Dan Ja members from Region 1 and Region 2, the ring assignments were done quickly to satisfy the numerous practitioners who attended.
Presiding over opening ceremonies, Schermerhorn Sa bom Nim welcomed everyone, especially all the parents in attendance supporting their children. He provided personal greeting from the Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang, who just recently had returned from the Korean Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa. He also emphasized the Moo Do Ja Seh theme again and hoped for everyone to enjoy the event, especially those attending for the first time. After the opening ceremonies, and after the playing of the National Anthem of the United States and the Republic of South Korea, the Ko Dan Ja in attendance lined up for their hyung demonstrations.
The Ko Dan Ja members who demonstrated, performed with great spirit and basically provided everyone with an example of what it is to put together your Shim Gung, Weh Gung and Neh Gung into your hyung performance. Of note were the performances of P.J. Steyer Sa bom Nim and Frank Tsai, Sa bom Nim, both from Region 1. Their performance of Chil Sung Chil Ro hyung basically brought the audience to a silence that you could hear a pin drop. Impressive. Their personal performance brought them to a tie for competition, and they both performed another advance hyung, O Sip Sa Bo Hyung (a hyung based on the characteristics of a tiger) and again, very impressive.
Other Ko Dan Ja members performed Ji On hyung by Lalieu Sa bom Nim and Cort Stinehour Sa bom Nim, Regional Examiner; a form with the characteristics of a Mountain Goat; Sei Shan hyung, a hyung based on the Praying Mantis by Sachs and Kirby Sa bom Nim, and Chil Sung Yuk Ro hyung by Perusse Sa bom Nim, who gave a precision performance that displayed accuracy and power. Wonderful personal performances by all the Ko Dan Ja.
The Ko Dan Ja Hyung competition was judged by Frank Bonsignore, Sa bom Nim, Hu Kyun In and Charter Member, Frank Schermerhorn, Sa bom Nim, Hu Kyun In and Liaison to the TAC, Brian Sileo, Sa bom Nim and Denise Mullen, Sa bom Nim, Regional Examiner.
