Moo Duk Kwan® Suffers Another Loss.

We were recently informed that Mrs. On Sook Hong passed away on June 10, 2013.  Below is a short tribute to Mrs. Hong by Mr. John Kim, who is an original student of Young Ki Hong, Sa bom Nim. 

From the Ted Mason, Sa Bom Nim's History Volume #5: Hong, Young Ki  #4142  Monticello NY Attended the Charter Convention June 28, 1975  (photo in newsletter).  In 1991 he was appointed to the Technical Advisory Committee (T.A.C.). He was appointed as Regional Examiner by the T.A.C. Chairman, H. C. Hwang SBN in 1992.

On Monday, June 10, 2013, Mrs. On Sook Hong (pictured 3rd from left in photo) passed away at 6:10pm.

She was the devoted wife of my original Sa Bom Nim, Young Ki Hong, the mother of two sons, Joonyi and Joonho Hong and the younger sister of HC Hwang KJN and the second daughter of the founder of Moo Duk Kwan®, Hwang Kee.

Mrs. Hong As I recall my early training days in the 1980s, I would see Mrs Hong regularly at the dojang 3-4 times a week for many years. I have many fond memories of my time back then training as a young MDK®

practitioner as well as at many other social gatherings with the Hong family.

Although I am sad she is no longer with us on earth, her strong spirit lives on in her two sons. May you rest in peace in heaven Mrs Hong…

SPECIAL NOTE: As a tribute to Mrs. Hong, we will be making a special collection on behalf of all Region 2 members to send a memorial arrangement to Mrs. Hong's memorial service on the 20th of June.  The collection will take place at the regional Dan Re-Test and Regional Dan Team Evaluations being held at the HQ Dojang in Springfield this Saturday, June 15h, 2013.  Please be generous with your donations.   Young Ki Hong Sa bom Nim was a Region 2 Studio Owner and active supporter of Region 2, and is an original Charter Member of the U.S. Federation.  Thank you for your consideration.

Began training in 1967 at the age of 16, as a member of the Brooklyn Highland Park Y.M.C.A., under the guidance and training of Mr. Mike Masley, Jr., Dan Bon 10180, and tested for Cho Dan on June 18, 1969.  Now a certified 4th Dan Ko Dan Ja, and was issued his original testing date Dan Bon 13927 by Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang based on his petition to honor that date and evidence showing Mr. Mike Masley and his instructors,  Mr. Robert Sohn, Dan Bon 6037 and Mr. Vincent Nunno, Dan Bon 7291, were legitimate representatives of the Founder, and Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee and the Korean Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Association in 1969.
